Can I Transfer Money From One Ventra Card To Another
WageWorks and Ventra Card Tutorial
Part 1: Get a Ventra Card
The first step in the Ventra process is securing a Ventra Card. There are multiple ways you can get a Ventra Card. If you don't already have a Ventra card you can get a new card in a variety of ways.
- Option 1: You can order a Ventra card online at ventrachicago.com
- Option 2: You can purchase a Ventra Card, in person, from vending machines at every CTA 'L' station and more than 1,300 drugstores, currency exchanges, and other conveniently located retailers throughout the Chicago region. Find retailers
If you purchase your Ventra Card from a vending machine or a retailer, there is an initial $5 purchase fee for the card—this is automatically refunded as transit value if you register your card within 90 days of purchase.
Registering a Ventra Card purchased at a vending machine or retailer is easy and gives you immediate access to all the features and benefits of online account management. Registration also protects your card balance if your card is lost or stolen. Register a Card. If you purchased your Ventra Card online, it is registered automatically.
Part 2: Funding the Ventra Card with a Card product.
A WageWorks Visa® Prepaid Commuter Card or a WageWorks MasterCard® Prepaid Commuter Card is a stored-valued card that works like a credit card at transit agency ticket vending machines and ticket windows. In this order path you will be using the Commuter Card as a personal card, to load value onto your Ventra card.
Step 1: Log onto your account on www.wageworks.com
Step 2: Click on the "Commuter" link. Next, select "Place Commuter Order" and then "Commuter Transit." Finally select "Ventra" as the service provider.
Step 3: Select the "WageWorks Commuter Card" pass product.
Step 4: Select the amount you would like to have on your Commuter Card. To determine this amount, please identify how much you will need to fund your Ventra card to support your monthly commute needs.
Step 5: Complete your order.
Please note the Commuter Card funds load on the 20th of the month. The value will not be available until that date.
Part 3: Ventra Funding
You can manually load transit value or passes using funds on your WageWorks Commuter Card whenever you like:
- At vending machines, select to Add Value or Passes and touch your Ventra Card. Once you've made your fare selection, use your WageWorks Commuter Card to pay like you would any credit card.
Online, you can log into your Ventra account (if you got your card from a vending machine or retailer, be sure to register it first):
Step 1: Log onto your account on www.ventrachicago.com
Step 2: On the account summary page, Click on "Add Value" or "Add Pass" link. You must choose between adding a "one-time pass" or add a pass with "autoload.". If you choose to set Autoload be sure to manage the balance on your WageWorks Commuter card to ensure you have enough value when the Autoload funding attempt occurs. Please note if you are planning to fund your Ventra Card via the www.ventrachicago.com site you should add $5 to the amount you plan on electing. There is a "pre-funding" process that is kicked off when you select the auto-load option. You will need the extra $5 for a short period of time, to avoid having your funding attempt fail.
Step 3: Select your product
Step 4: Select your payment option. Choose the Pay with my Credit Card option and add the WageWorks Commuter Card.
You can check your balance online, from your mobile browser or at any vending machine and load more value or passes. You can even load an additional pass in advance so once one expires, a new pass is ready to be activated on your next ride afterward.
